International Migratory Bird Day

By grizzleo

This is sponsoresd by a bunch of folks. In the Washington D.C. area this day is sponsored by FONZ or Friends of the National Zoo and the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Research Center, which helped found this day. They have a lot of bird oriented childrens activities. They all look great. For adults there will be a lecture by Bridgette Stuchbury of NY University, Toronto and author of, Silence of the Songbirds, which she will sign for you there at the event which will be held at the National Zoo Center Auditorium on April 24th at 7 pm. FONZ will sponsor activities that entire week, so do not miss it. So much going on in D.C. for Earth Day. You cannot lose. Checkout CCAN and FONZ to get started and there will be activities at the National Mall for families or those just plain interested in Earth Day.

For those who want to go outdoors to celebrate Earthday, in the D.C.  area I reccomend Viollettes Lock, Riley’s Lock, McKee Besher  WMA and Sycamore Landing all along the Potomac River in C and O National Park. Mckee belongs to the state but it boarders C and O. with an easy Trail called the Towpath, an old oars road no longer used by oarspeople. Bikers and hikers use it now, followed by birders and kayakers, a neat, easy place to get at and get away in the D.C. area.
