Too Many Grizzlies and Poster Child

By grizzleo

I couldnt help but read a Yahoo article titled Too Many grizzlies. It has a film of a female grizzly near a place called Swan Lake Flats. A young male grizzly is also crossing the road in the video footage, clacking its teeth at the tourists who have stopped along the roadside to photograph  bears. Yellowstone is a part of the world where that can still happen and I do not think there is such a place where there are too many grizzly bears. Such a place does not exsist no matter what you here from persons who move out west and wrestle the bears for scarce space. I am rooting for the bear. Nothing new in that!

The other day I was watching a telivision special on scientists measuring Global Warming. A terrestrial Biologist called the polar bear ” the poster child for Global Warming” while I agree that polar bears in the US may meet their doom if Global Warming occurs at current rates, I have to admit that scientists have wagged their finger about this as a prospective problem for a long time. When polar bear’s feel impacted or it is a measurable impact, things have come a long way. I remember that some of the first animal kingdom “poster childs” were frogs and toads and salamanders. Was anyone paying attention then or does it take a polar bear to get folks to pay attention, or our own food?
