		<description>Hello:
California, just as you predict, will have a 12 month fire season. My little sister is a teacher in California and she says nearr her fire is increasing every year, perhaps anecdotal to you but it bears out in the data for her area of California. It is just that, and that is sad. This is an area of California thaty was grand and is now burning a lot more.

		<description>What&#039;s happening here?

I live in Malibu and am a wildland fire expert. Each year the fires are coming earlier, getting worse, and lasting longer. Soon CA will have a full 12 month fire season. Each year we hear, &quot;unusually dry season, low rainfall, etc.&quot; That&#039;s the norm! The fire services are doing all they can, but there is still a terrible loss of property. There are several basic issues interrelated with the problem of global warming-
&gt; Accumulated brush which hasn&#039;t burned in 20+ years
&gt; Increased development on the urban-wildland interface
&gt; Power poles over weighted with fiber-optic cable
&gt; Everyone everywhere expecting full fire protection at no cost
&gt; Lunatics who think it would be fun to set something on fire.

It&#039;s a complicated equation. More money for more firefighters is a help, but it isn&#039;t the answer.

I have also written a novel about wildland firefighters in California. If you are interested, please visit http://www.kurtkamm.com
