The US Fish and Wildlife Service Drags Its Feet On the Listing of the White Bark Pine

The Yellowstone Grizzly bear is the largest subpopulation of grizzly bear in the lower 48 states. Mountain pine beetle is wiping out the white bark pine (wbp); its nut is a cyclical, major food source for the Yellowstone grizzly. Dave Mattson, an x Interagency Grizzly Bear Study Team biologist, corealate’s the Yellowstone Grizzly Bears welfare with the wbp viability.

White Pine Blister rust, an exotic fungus was slowly killing the wbp but global warming has exacerbated the demise of the wbp nut as a food source for bear’s in the Yellowstone Ecosystem. The US Fisn and Wildlife Service is dragging its feet in listing the wbp as endangered and as a result is that environmental groups like the Natural Resource Defense Council (NRDC) are suing the US Fish and Wildlife Service to list the highly endangered wbp under the protection of the Endangered Species Act. I want to see them succeed in this litigation; a litigation based on a sad fact.
