Biodiversity to Take a Huge Beating as a Result of the Gulf Oil Spill

The biodiversity of the Gulf of Mexico is completely threatoned by BP’s devistating oil spill. On the low end it is estimated that as many as 70,000 acres and 22 wildlife refuges will be impacted by the Gulf Coast Oil Spill.
A huge deal has been made about the oil spill’s impact on birds like the Brown Pelican-Louisiana’s state bird…but there are many other birds that will be impacted by the oil spill…anybirds like terns or plovers, that use the barrier islands of Louisiana, will be impacted.
Three species of sea turtle will be impactcted by the spill, shrimp and other “bread and butter” invertebrates will be impacted by the spill.
The oil spill potentially will impact a huge swath of the gulfs biodiversity and this potential will be watched very closely.
