Such a beautiful looking day. There are a few cirrus clouds floating lasily in the lapus blue sky. Mountain ranges ring the valley. It is 74 degrees outside. It seems like the perfect day.
However there is a war being played out on our mountaintops. Ghost forests of whitebark pine are on the tops of the mountains that are on the northside of Yellowstone National Park as global warming encourages pine bark beetles to invade and kill entire stands of trees. Then down to the valley sides red burnishes of pine bark beetle mortalities show entire ecosytems of lodgepole pine mortality. These mortality zones show up in droves on the mountains that ring this valley.
Yes the day is beautiful, but global warming, a reality of our times, is rearing its head and we must respond to it if we are to survive.
